VISITOR CODE

Wherever we go and whatever we do, we have an impact.

There are many ways in which you can get involved during your visit to help look after our beautiful area, and ensure it is just as special on your next visit, this will also support our commitment to sustainable tourism:

  1. Why not get out of the car – walking, riding and cycling are great ways to explore the area without adding to the traffic and you'll find there are fantastic places to visit right on your doorstep!

  2. Stay local, eat local, buy local and see local – Lancashire has gained a reputation for fine food and local produce, so why not seek out farmers' markets, village stores, pubs and cafes and make a real difference to the local communities.

  3. Reduce, Reuse, Recycle – support us in our efforts to reduce waste.

  4. Switch off…and save energy - in rural Lancashire you can see the stars at night!  Help us reduce energy use and CO2 emissions by switching off lights and standby buttons when you don't need them.  Help us reduce water consumption by using just the water you need.

  5. Follow the Countryside Code – the countryside code reminds us all to protect, respect and enjoy: look after plants and animals; take litter away; leave gates and property as you find them; keep dogs under close control; and consider other people www.countrysideaccess.gov.uk

 OUR ENVIRONMENTAL POLICY

Here at THE STORK we are committed to providing a good quality service whilst minimising the environmental impact of our activities.

An example of this commitment is our membership of the Green Tourism Business Scheme.

The scheme provides accreditation and encouragement for tourism businesses to reduce the environmental impact of their activities.  By encouraging sustainable practices the scheme ensures the continued enjoyment of the environment around us for future generations.

We welcome support, participation, and suggestions from you our customers as to how we can improve our environmental policy and protect the environment and increase the enjoyment of your stay.

At The Stork we have taken some simple but effective measures to become more environmentally friendly...

  • Set up our own recycling system for all glass, plastic bottles, tin cans and newspapers and cardboard as we do not have a council collection;

  • Our hot water boiler is set at 60C;

  • We have replaced most of light bulbs with low energy light bulbs and will continue to replace the balance as they are used up;

  • Turn televisions off instead of leaving on standby mode;

  • Shop locally & reduce carbon footprint, thus supporting local retailers and producers. Wherever possible, source local and fair-trade produce;

  • Invite guests to use water in a responsible manner;

  • Provide recycle bags in the bedrooms to encourage our guests to recycle;

  • Encourage walkers, cyclists, dogs & families and offer extensive information regarding low impact activities, bus timetables, cycle routes etc.;

  • Use recycled stationery;

  • Associated with “Forest of Bowland Business Network” and attend meetings to share best practice;

  • Heating is thermostatically controlled and turned off when not required;

  • Make best use of light by keeping windows clean and making best use of natural sunlight;
